The Dodecanese islands

The Dodecanese (Greek Dodekánisa means 'twelve islands') are a group of 12 larger plus 150 smaller Greek islands in the Aegean Sea. They have a rich history, and many of even the smallest inhabited islands boast dozens of Byzantine churches and medieval castles. Dodecanese Islands have everything to offer to the visitors: whitewashed houses, beautiful beaches with crystal waters, charming villages, exciting nightlife and more.

Agathonisi is a small island 36 n.m. east of Patmos. It remains even now an unspoiled destination. The little white-washed houses built according to the local architecture, the tiny gardens and the kind nature of its inhabitants come in contrast with the dry climate and land which give the island of Agathonissi a purely unique character to this lonely standing little island. There are three villages on the island except the harbour Ag Georgios: Katholiko, a practically abandoned fishing village, Megalo Chorio, where most islanders live, and Mikro Chorio. Agathonisi is an ideal place to visit for those who wish to spend their holidays away from mass tourism as it is one of the last "paradise" islands of the Aegean sea.
